LUNCH AND SHOW AT THE TOTEM VILLAGE TRIBAL HOUSE

12 Noon to 1:30 PM Monday thru Friday

Treat yourself to an unforgetable feast for the eyes, spirit and body. Join in Magical HAPPINESS CRITTER FUN while lunching on a picnic meal of your choice inside an authentic Tribal House Replica complete with Totem Poles, carved Totemic screen, theater light and sound - and Puppets.

After the meal, hang onto your seats for the CHILKAT DANCERS STORYTELLIN THEATER SHOW complete with masks, regalia costuming, and action theater. Four native legends come to life on stage at the Raven’s Fort tribal house.

CHILDREN’S PUPPETRY IMMERSION

After the show young people of all ages can interact with the puppets and cast.

Artists Studios Tour

Mask Making: Participants will create an image from their immagination and cover it with a mache material that , when dry, can be cut, painted and decorated for wearing or hanging. Depending on the interests and timing of the participants. some movement sessions can be arranged with or without masks. Also an outdoor beach ceremony can happen where people can transform into their masked spirit being. Minimum time for this process is two days.

Totemic Design: Learn the basics or finer points of Northwest Coast Native design in session with practicing artists at Fort Seward. Learn how form lines develop, different colors work together, how animal bodies are constructed, how to work with available space, and what totem characters signify. This can be one or two sessions.

Spirit Art Carving: Quickly learn the basic principles of wood carving and create your own totemic or spirit mask or figure out of easy to carve cottonwood bark. Under the eperrt guidance of artist Tresham Gregg, outside of his Sea Wolf Gallery surrounded by mountain scenery, Fort architecture, and animistic art, you can focus on the image of your choice and bring it to life in an afternoon.session.

Storytelling Theater Show, Experimental Puppetry: If your tour starts on weekdays we feature the exciting production of the Chilkat Dancers Storytelling Theater show, an hour long presentation of four native legends all in masks, costurming and action theater. Here the pasts comes back to life in the old Tribal House Replica at the Fort Seward parade grounds. If you miss the weekday show, perhaps you would like to work with puppeters on creating some unique stage experience using some of Tresham Gregg’s hand puppets.

Artists Studios Tour: Haines and Fort Seward are noted for their artists and art. Several studio gallleries are available where you can meet and talk with the artists. If time permits, perhaps a dazzling photo safari down the Chilkat Penninsula can be arranged with a stop at the Extreme Dreams Gallery of John Svenson. Other studios include: The Sea Wolf Gallery, Alaska Indian Arts, The Wild Iris, The Whale Rider and Uniquely Alaskan.

Chilkat Penninsula Ultimate Photo Op, Beach Walks: Spend a blissful day exploring the breathtaking Chilkat Penninsula finding that special driftwood spirit on the beach, photgraphing scenic panoamas or up close detail. Learn to see spirit faces in nature, take moments to sketch, take notes or just meditate. Visit with John Svenson at his Mud Bay Extreme Dreams Gallery.

Drawing and Painting from Nature: work with local artist on capturing the dynamic beauty of off road spots in sketches and paint on canvas board.

Spirit Abstractions from Nature: Use your photo op experience to move into the spirit realm in paint. Work with multimedia artist, Tresham Gregg to experiment with acrylic paint to bring to life some of the images found on your outdoor adventuring.

River or Inlet Adventure: Take a raft trip down the scenic Chilkat River or kayak around the fascinating shorelines of the Chilkat Penninsula. Optional.

Chilkoot Lake Wildlife Trip and Beach Picnic: No trip to Haines is complete without a drive to the photogenic Chilkoot Lake and riiver where bears, eagles, and various othe birds congregate in a unique setting. Along the way we will stop at a idyllic beach for some outdoor cooking and unforgettable feasting.

Enchanted Forest Hike: Skirt along the wooded cliffs on the way to Battery Point for an enchanted sojurn with the forest spirits. Take advantage of unique photo experiences culminating in a breathtaking beach and rocky penninsula for a real life spirit journey.

Each trip is tailored to the groups timing and interests. Weather can also play a factor in the timeing of various aspects.

A fascinating Native culture continues on here through the arts including famous totem pole carvers and the Raven's Fort Tribal House replica, where ancient legends come to life in action theater in the Chilkat Dancers Storytelling Theater Show.

Historic Fort Wm H. Seward, the first permanent Army Fort built in Alaska, is an idyllic place to drop out of the rest of the world's frantic pace, and be able to focus on one's spiritual inner journey. Retreats and seminars here can combine the group's particular programming with a variety of integrative activities that can enhance and expand anyone's seminar experience. Our Chilkat Center for the Arts, in addition to housing a fine auditorium, lobby, and meeting rooms, also has a fine dance studio where Brietta Leader, our resident dance and movement specialist, can take you on a spiritual journey through movement - including NIA, Yoga and Soul Moition. Shamanic Artist, Tresham Gregg, offers classes in transformation mask making that culminates in a ritual dance where you can become your power spirit in a wilderness peak experience finale' to your adventure here.

Other opportunities include: shamanic carving, shamanic journeying, drumming sessions, outdoor hikes and adventures, outdoor hot tubbing, sweat lodge, salmon bake, legend creation workshop and more.

LEAD ARTIST - TRESHAM GREGG
Performing and Visual Arts

Tresham grew up in Haines/Fort Seward and was artistic at an early age and became immersed in Native arts and culture as a young teenager. After graduating from Stanford in Art and Architecture, Tresham did a year of graduate study in Fine Art at UC Davis, and then studied figure drawing and old masters in Paris, France. After traveling around the world he formed his own dance theater group and performed seven years of shows. Returning home to Haines, Alaska, Tresham established several galleries and created a cottage industry for fine arts and crafts. He has continued to travel extensively and also found time to write, produce, direct, and costume a number of plays for both adults and children here in Haines. Currently Tresham produces the new Chilkat Dancer's Storytelling Theater Show. He is proficient in woodcarving, silver jewelry, silk screen printing, painting and craft designing.
